Despite lawmakers claiming that TikTok poses a threat to national security, the evidence supporting this assertion remains unclear.

Despite the seriousness of the US government’s concerns about TikTok’s potential national security risks, security experts say that there is currently no evidence to suggest that the Chinese government has used the app for espionage purposes.

While TikTok does not operate in China, there are concerns that its parent company, ByteDance, could be coerced into cooperating with security activities due to the Chinese government’s influence over businesses under its jurisdiction.

The distrust of China and awareness of Chinese espionage has increased, leading to a heightened level of suspicion around TikTok. However, there has been no specific allegation made against the app.

The National Security Agency’s director of cybersecurity, Rob Joyce, has issued a general warning about TikTok’s security risks.
